Cabinet Maker’s Hand Tools

Cabinet makers require several hand tools, but the tools might be costly. Therefore, the trick is buying as few tools as possible and then use them with confidence. Some tools are not even necessary in a typical workshop, and they will only slow you down.

You need measuring and marking tools, saws, chisels, routers, and planes. Although a router is not a hand tool, it has been included in the list because the small router is an essential tool for a modern cabinet maker.

The bench plane is used for flattening components and is therefore considered a vital tool for a cabinet maker. The plan is also used to bring wood pieces to their final dimensions, remove planer marks, and final joints fitting.

When buying a bench plane, choose a medium-sized one, usually described as a jack-plane or a fore-plane. It would be best to buy an old plane because the casting will be well seasoned and will not move when using the plane.

It would be best if you also had a small block plane. You can buy one with an adjustable mouth because it is more flexible. Still, you will have to pay an additional amount for the modifications.
