Keep Things in Proportion

Some students wonder how the experts keep everything in proportion. Starting something is the most challenging thing. Take, for example, when you are drawing something on paper. That blank white surface of the paper may scare you and stop you from being creative.

Those who feel that furniture design is complicated should start working on pieces of furniture such as cabinets. Deciding upon the proportions is a personal decision you have to make. You do not need to tell anyone how you think or feel about it.

Proportions are all about relationships between two dimensions and precise width and height. In furniture making, proportions are used in elevations and pieces of furniture that stand against a wall. These include elements such as wardrobes, sideboards, or chests of drawers.

The Greeks used the proportion of low numbers when referring to harmonics and architectural works. This included proportions in terms of 1 to 1 or 1 to 2. When working with wood pieces, look for squares or low number rations such as 1 to 2 or 1 to 3.

Use structural logic to come up with the right proportional ratios for the furniture. Make every part balanced to the other elements to make the piece of furniture appear serene.
